Jail for man who made threats to kill

In the dock was Paul Kinneton (41), of no fixed abode, who admitted the charge, which occurred on January 8.

The District Judge, Barley McElholm, was told by the prosecution that Kinneton threatened to tie up his mother’s oxygen and cut her husband’s throat during the incident.

The prosecution said that Kinneton’s mother contacted police saying that her son had threatened to kill her and her husband.

When police arrived at the scene they found Kinneton downstairs, and he appeared to them to be in a highly intoxicated state. They found his mother who is on oxygen upstairs.

She told police that Kinneton had returned home and entered her room and threatened to tie up her oxygen and cut her husband’s throat.

Defence solicitor George Copeland who appeared for Kinneton, said his client had been released from prison some weeks ago and had been living at his mother’s house.

He sad he had returned home with a bottle of vodka and now accepted his behaviour was out of order.

District Judge Barney McElholm said Kinneton was a hopeless case who was doing nothing about his drinking.

He said the criminal justice system was not geared to deal with cases like this and if he could sentence Kinneton to a secure facility where he would get treatment, he would.

Instead, Kinneton was jailed for four months.
