Graffiti daubed overnight on church hall condemned - PSNI are appealing for anyone with information to contact them

Police are investigating after graffiti was daubed on the walls of a Co Antrim church hall.

In a statement the PSNI said they are nvestigating a report of criminal damage to a church in the Belfast Road area of Crumlin in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

They said it was reported on Tuesday morning that sometime overnight, graffiti had been sprayed on a church building.

Inquiries are continuing and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 440 of 15/09/20.

And alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

Local Alliance Councillor David Honeyford hit out at those behind the graffiti.

He said it had been daubed on the hall of St Aidan’s Church in the village.

Councillor Honeyford said it was condemned by everyone there.

“This graffiti has no place in our society, particularly on the walls of a church hall,” he said.

“The reverend is a key member of the local team which has been supporting the community throughout the pandemic, and everyone will join me in condemning those behind this vandalism and the abuse of the church hall by thugs,” he added.

“I have spoken to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council and asked them to remove the graffiti as soon as possible, and I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police with it immediately.”
