Craigavon Council gives £500 to organ donation charity

Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has praised staff and Councillors at Craigavon Borough Council for their support for Organ Donation and for the local charity Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund (NIKRF).

Mrs Dobson, speaking after joining outgoing Mayor of Craigavon, Colin McCusker in presenting £500 to the charity on behalf of Council Staff said: “I was absolutely delighted to join the Mayor and Council staff along with representatives from NIKRF at the Mayor’s farewell barbecue and commend them for their support for organ donation. The money will help the charity to continue to support their vital life-saving research into organ transplantation.”

Mrs Dobson also highlighted the fact that final Notice of Motion of Craigavon Council was to unanimously support organ donation and her campaign to modernise our local organ donation laws.

The former Craigavon Councillor said: “I pay tribute to Craigavon Council for debating and recognising the huge importance and life-saving qualities of organ donation at their symbolic and historic final meeting of Council.

“I think it truly says something about organ donation when all parties and Councillors in Craigavon Council unanimously agreed on their final Notice of Motion to support an initiative based on the principle of saving lives!

“My connection with organ donation is through 20 years experience with my son Mark. Through the selfless generosity of a family we will never ever know Mark underwent a successful kidney transplant in 2009 which saved his life and gave me back my son.”
