The local authority’s Development Committee is currently seeking to identify parties interested in being part of the project, which has been on hold for several years due to a lack of available funding.

The committee’s December meeting was informed that the school is keen to push ahead with the project, and that CCMS and the Department of Education may provide a significant proportion of the funding for the £1m scheme.

The pitch, which would be located within the grounds of the college, would be for school and community use, potentially involving a partnership with local sports clubs.

Several councillors stressed that the development would help meet the need for facilities for Gaelic games in the Newtownabbey area.
