Celebrating and promoting Neighbourhood Watch in Moyle

Moyle DPP (District Policing Partnership) along with Moyle CSP (Community Safety Partnership) and Moyle Police recently held an open event to celebrate and promote Neighbourhood Watch in Moyle.

The public event, which was held in Ballycastle Golf Club, on the 9 Feb, was well attended by representatives from a wide range of people from the local area; including the DPP, CSP, Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators, elected members from Moyle District Council and members of the local community.

Local Neighbourhood Police Inspector, Mr Bryan Hume, chaired the event and, along with the support and input of Mr Andy McBratney, from PSNI Head Quarters, highlighted the benefits of neighbourhood watch and facilitated a general discussion on the subject matter.

Speaking about the event Inspector, Bryan Hume, said: “I am extremely pleased with the turnout and hope that our current scheme co-ordinators got a degree of encouragement by coming along to share their experiences today.

“I was pleased with the level of discussion and interest and hope that everyone who attended left with a greater knowledge about Neighbourhood Watch and what benefits it can bring to where they live. The key message that I want to impress upon the local community is that Neighbourhood Watch has many benefits, and, chiefly amongst these; it can help people feel safer in their homes; help promote co-operation between the police and the community; be a deterrent to the criminal; and provide a visible sign that members of the community are looking out for each other.

From a local perspective, our Schemes have worked very well and have helped me and my officers to open up excellent channels of communication with local communities”.

On a final note Inspector Hume said; “The success of Neighbourhood Watch is dependant on the input of the Scheme Co-ordinators, who all give up their time voluntarily and who play a vital role in working with us, and our partners, to help make their neighbourhoods a safer place to; live, work, and visit. Therefore, as a result of today’s event, I sincerely hope that we will have more schemes up and running in the future; and, once again, I would appeal to the wider community to consider Neighbourhood Watch for their area and encourage you to contact the PSNI, DPP or CSP if you need more information or support.”
