Due to the Public Realm works seating in the centre has been removed much to the dismay of those who need to take breaks from their shopping in the city.

One man said: “There is a sad lack of public seating - it is insufficient.

“It is absolutely appalling as elderly people and the disabled rely on seats so they can take a rest.

“It is ridiculous and I am extremely disappointed at the way these works have been handled.”

Another man who recently underwent a hip replacement said he was deeply dissatisfied with the lack of seats.

He said: “Me and my wife come into town regularly but we need the occasional sit down so we can catch our breath.

“I’m sure this is putting people in our position off coming into Lisburn.”

He said: “It’s okay doing these public realm works if they would actually give some consideration to the shoppers.

“The elderly and disabled make up a lot of the people who come into the town and more thought needs to be given to them.

“I just hope the Council brings back the seating a.s.a.p or people like ourselves just won’t be able to come.”

A spokesperson for the Council said: “A Public Realm Scheme is currently underway in Lisburn City Centre.

“As a result of the upgrade work and re-design of the open landscape, seating in the area has been removed.

“New seating will be reinstated as part of the scheme which will enhance the City Centre.”
