Businesses reminded of fire safety
It is five years since Fire Safety Legislation changed here meaning that the employer or any person who has control of non-domestic premises must ensure those premises reach the required fire safety standard by ensuring that they undertake a fire risk assessment and take the appropriate measures to reduce the risk from fire and making sure people can evacuate safely if there is a fire.
NIFRS has carried out 11,962 inspections of premises across the province to ensure they are legally compliant and fire safe.

Hide AdNIFRS has served 26 enforcement notices, 14 prohibition notices and there have been three prosecutions.
Group Commander, Kevin O’Neill said: “Since the change in Fire Safety Legislation in 2010, NIFRS has been educating and informing owners, employers and those with responsibility for fire safety in non-domestic premises about the change in Fire Safety Legislation and what their duties are under the current law.
“We will provide free fire safety advice to ensure premises are up to standard however in continued cases of failure to comply we issue enforcement notices and in the most serious of cases we will prosecute,” said Group Commander O’Neill.
