Beneath the East Window...

Standing elegantly against the east wall of St Columb’s Cathedral in the chancel is some of the most beautifully carved stone setting off the altar, which sits below the east window.

The Reredos of Caen stone was the gift of the clergy ordained in the Cathedral and the wings were presented by Mrs F E Corscaden in memory of his sister.

There are six mosaics, depicted on the altar, which are included in this slidesow, which show the four Evangelists - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, as well as St Patrick and St Columba.

On the floor of the Chancel, immediately in front of the altar is a section of carpet depicting the Dove, which represents St Columba.

The ornate stone is intricately carved with vines, flowers, and angels and cherubs.
