Singer songwriter Ben Glover appeared in Ballymoney Town Hall two years ago as special guest of Anthony Toner and on Thursday 26 March makes a welcome return with his own show following the release of his acclaimed new album “Atlantic”.
The music of Americana artists mixed with traditional Irish songs were the soundtrack for Ben Glover growing up in Glenarm. He relocated to Nashville in 2009 and immersed himself in the southern culture. He began exploring the locations that were closely associated with the music he grew up listening to.
In 2012 Ben visited the Mississippi Delta and was struck by the spirit of the area.
It reminded him of Ireland and he was inspired to make a musical union between his homes on both sides of the ocean. Instead of recording in Nashville Ben decided to come back home and get as close to his roots as possible.
The result of this homecoming is Atlantic and it is easily Ben’s finest record. Atlantic deals with many themes - place, growth, pain, love, faith, sin, redemption and ultimately homecoming – and the songs are evidence of a writer and a singer who has found his voice.
“Singer-songwriter Ben Glover has that rare quality of making you stop in your tracks and listen to his every word “Atlantic” is a deep, earthy, Southern-gothic blend of storytelling that’s of another time”. Maverick Magazine (5 stars)
“Ben is a deeply, innately soulful singer-songwriter. He’s not afraid of the dark stuff, but he brings a spirituality to it that makes even his darkest songs feel more like prayers than dirges”. Gretchen Peters
The performance which is promoted by Ballymoney Borough Arts Committee, begins at 8pm in Ballymoney Town Hall. Tickets £9, concessions £7 are available from the Town Hall 028 2766 0230.
