Becky prepares for Tall Ship adventure
The lower sixth pupil was one of just 80 young people selected out of 600 applicants from Northern Ireland to become a trainee crew member in the Tall Ships Races 2015.
“I’m really excited,” said Becky, who will play a central role on board the ship on the first leg of the race as it sails on the 11 day voyage from Belfast to Ålesund, Norway.

Hide AdBecky, who has never sailed before, decided to apply for the chance as she thought it would be good experience.
“I had to do an essay on why I would like to sail on the Tall Ships and how I would raise the funds for the trip if I was chosen.
“The next part of the selection involved playing team games to see how I worked as part of a team and then a one to one interview.
“It was after Christmas I found out I had been selected and I was so shocked.”

“It was good to get to know each other before the event,” said Becky.
Becky invited the Northern Ireland Concert Band to perform at the ‘Evening of Music’ for her fundraiser, as her mum Paula is principal trumpeter with them.
Formerly the Band of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, they are now one of the country’s leading concert bands.

Tickets are £5 and Becky has decided that the remainder of the money raised is going to support local girl Korin Dempster in her Fundraising efforts.
Korin began fundraising after her five-year-old sister Cariss was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Neuroblastoma.
“My mum had taken music workshops at the Old Station Nursery where Korin and Cariss had gone and we felt it would be good to help them,” said Becky.
