Ballyhackett and Castleroe launch their joint PIEE Project

GOVERNORS, staff, pupils, parents and friends of Ballyhackett and Castleroe primary schools came together for the launch of their joint Primary Integrating Enriching Education Project (PIEE) at the Peter Thompson Hall, Castlerock, last Thursday.

The three-year project, funded by the International Fund for Ireland and The Atlantic Philanthropies, aims to support small primary schools from different sectors, located in close geographical proximity to work together to enhance good community relationships between staff, pupils, parents and the wider communities they serve.

Both schools have a warm, caring family ethos and realise the importance of preparing children to meet the challenge of a changing world.

Mrs Sharon Dobbin, NEELB Project Coordinator for PIEE, gave an informative presentation and explained how participation in the project will enable pupils to share experiences and meet with pupils from their partner school. She said the project aims to prepare pupils for a shared future while at the same time acknowledging and recognizing the differences that make us who we are.

Mrs McConaghie and Mrs Mellon, principals of Castleroe and Ballyhackett respectively, outlined the programme of activities and explained how these would further enrich the pupils’ educational experiences.
