Accused wept when he was granted bail

Connor McGoldrick (30), of Mallory Park, Eglinton, was charged with being concerned in an offer to supply ecstasy and cocaine between January 1 and February 13, as well as being concerned in the supply of cannabis, possessing cocaine and ecstasy with intent to supply and simple possession of class A and B drugs.

The court was told that police seized a mobile phone in December 2015 as part of a drugs investigation.

They believed a contact, stored as ‘Beavis’ was McGoldrick and suspected he is involved in drugs supply.

In February, police arrested him in premises where he was the DJ. His mobile phone was seized and examined.

Last week, police conducted a search of a property. The defendant was present and found to be in possession of a small bag of cannabis. A number of messages on McGoldrick’s phone which relate to drug supply.

During police interview, McGoldrick admitted selling cocaine.

Police opposed bail for fear of further offences.

Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr said McGoldrick had Aspergers Syndrome and was due to move to Barcelona to start a new job. He described him as vulnerable and was used by others.

Mr McElholm granted permission to go to Spain as the defendant “would be better going to Barcelona”.

He added he did not believe McGoldrick is a drug dealer but a ‘conduit’.

The judge excused McGoldrick from attending court when the case is mentioned again on March 24.
