20th anniversary year ends on a high for Larne Tuesday Group

The group, which first met in October 1994, aims to bring people of all faiths, ethnic backgrounds and abilities together to create a peaceful society.

From January to June, the group meets on the third Tuesday of every month in Larne Methodist Church Hall, while between September and December it meets in Drumalis conference centre.

Committee member and publicity officer Patricia McNeill told the Times: “We are a cross-community Christian group from across the borough. Our purpose is building bridges, not walls.

“Larne Tuesday Group is a faith-based organisation and extends its Christian welcome to all who share its vision of Larne being a place where people from different groups, ethic backgrounds and abilities can come together and learn from each other without feeling threatened or pressurised and work together to build a more inclusive and happier time.”

In November, the group sponsored a performance of the Belfast Community Gospel Choir in Broadway.

In 2015, members will visit Armagh’s two cathedrals on June 23.

The last meeting for 2014, a Christmas meditation, was held on December 16.

Led by Captain Sue Whitla of the Salvation Army, it provided a thought-provoking end to the twentieth anniversary year.

The group’s theme for the coming year is ‘understanding differences.’ The next meeting is on February 17 at Larne Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.
