Ballymoney architectural firm 2020 have yet another reason to celebrate after being announced as finalists in the prestigious UK-wide ‘Construction Computing Awards’ 2016.
As finalists in the ‘One to Watch Company’ category, the highly innovative and exciting practice is up against UK-based software giants including Vectorsworks and Sypro Management.
2020 is the only company in Ireland competing in this category.
The news comes just weeks after 2020 Architects were announced finalists in ‘The Structural Timber Awards,’ 2016.
2020’s entry into the Construction Computing Awards follows their opening of their brand new office premises in Ballymoney which features a dedicated, state-of- the art Virtual Reality Suite – the first of its kind in Northern Ireland.
The experience will offer clients a completely unique and fully immersive tour of their bespoke project.
Wearing a VR headset, clients alongside the architect, will be able to customise the design with various simulations to optimise design preferences. Not on a
screen - but in exactly the same way they do in the real world.
By tilting their head up, they can see the ceiling and lighting design, by looking straight forward, feature-walls and room design.
By transforming 3D CAD models into interactive walk-throughs, architects and clients can evaluate aesthetic and design alternatives in real time.
Gareth Boyd, Director of 2020 Architects said: “We are thrilled to be finalists in two very prestigious awards. We believe in innovative architecture and work hard to stand out in our industry offering our clients a very unique experience.
“2020 is paving the way for contemporary architecture throughout Ireland.”
Winners of the Construction Computing Awards will be announced at a glitz gala event at BMA House, London on November 3rd.
The team at 2020 have been featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, following the design and build of partner, Michael Howe’s home.
The Grand Designs project featured the transformation of a 100 year old stone forge building, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, into a spectacular modern home that’s located on one of the North Coast’s most stunning sites. The firm’s current success based on their sustainable modern creations, they say, only came with the recruitment of three highly regarded young designers and the now owners, Gareth Boyd, Michael Howe and Richard McKinney.
