Playful Museums Week project success

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Museum Services team would like to thank all those who participated in its recent ‘Me to You’ Playful Museums Week activities.

Children were invited to take part in themed arts and crafts inspired by postcards held within the Borough’s five museum collections as well as the great work of all postal workers.

The response was overwhelming, with 78 packs distributed to 110 children aged from one to nine years old.

The virtual event featured a short animation which explored the journey of one little Bear’s postcard though time. It also included online instruction videos, along with postal and downloadable resource packs. As part of the project, children had an opportunity to create their own portrait stamp and postcards which will feature in an upcoming new exhibition.

The postcards created by the young participants will also be delivered to care homes within the Borough as a way of connecting generations and sharing creativity. The next step will be to provide postcard templates to participating care homes to see if they would like to continue the journey by writing a response to the children. If you would like to try any of the activities all templates can be downloaded from the NI Community Archive website resources page, https://niarchive.org/resources/. Postcard creations can be returned to Ballymoney Museum, 1 Townhead Street, Ballymoney, BT53 6BE.
