On their bike for charity

THE ‘Two Wheels: Two Weeks’ Bike Week, didn’t prove to be too challenging for the staff at Craigavon Borough Council.

Staff at Omagh District Council and Craigavon Borough Council went pedal to pedal to see who could cycle (on static bikes) the furthest and raise the most money for charity in a six hour time trial.

‘Cycling’ past the post to clock up a cumulative total of 234 miles were Craigavon Council staff beating Omagh District Council’s cumulative total of 205 miles.

The challenge was set as part of the British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland Heart Town with all proceeds in aid of the “Mending Broken Hearts” Appeal, which is funding groundbreaking research that could begin to literally ‘mend broken hearts’ in as little as 10 years’ time.

The event took place within both councils on the third day of Bike Week, Wednesday, June 20.

Each member of staff taking part in the challenge was allocated a 20 minute slot at Waves, Cascades or Craigavon Leisure Centres to try and cycle as far as they could in that time.

The distance was recorded to be included in the cumulative total for the council.
