Drumbo songwriter to launch debut album

THE debut album from local musician Ruth Trimble, Things I Want To Say, is being launched on Friday March 16 at 8pm in the Island Hall in Lisburn.

Since taking a break from her career as a pharmacist eighteen months ago, the singer songwriter has completed her album, and been putting her skills as a multi-instrumentalist to use in the touring bands of Nashville singers Beth Nielsen Chapman and Kevin Montgomery.

Ruth grew up in Drumbo and went to piano lessons at an early age, but only really began to enjoy playing the instrument after leaving those lessons and learning to play by ear.

Although piano continues to be her main instrument, she has learned to play many others over the years, and considers herself a multi-instrumentalist.

Ten of the twelve songs on her self-produced album ‘Things I Want To Say’ were recorded completely by herself, playing all the instruments and singing all the vocal parts.

Ruth only ever considered music as a hobby, and graduated university with a degree in Pharmacy. However, after developing an interest in writing and recording her own songs, it became a struggle to be both a pharmacist and a musician, so Ruth decided to take a career break to focus on music full time for a while.

Within eighteen months of leaving her employment, Ruth had completed UK wide tours with both Beth Nielsen Chapman and Kevin Montgomery (playing in their bands and opening the shows for Kevin), performed her first ticketed show as a solo artist in Belfast, and produced and recorded an album in her own home studio.

She also spent time in Nashville with some high profile producers, learning how to improve her own production skills.

As long as her break from pharmacy continues, Ruth will be aiming to get her album to as many people as possible and will be taking all the opportunities she can to continue doing what she loves.

In addition to writing all the songs, Ruth played all the instruments and sang all the vocal parts on ten of the twelve tracks. She also recorded and mixed the entire album in her own home studio. The album can be purchased at her website www.ruthtrimble.com and will soon be available to download on iTunes.

On Friday March 16, Ruth will perform the songs from Things I Want To Say on a grand piano with the support of a full band, making it a night of celebration not to be missed.

Tickets can be purchased from the Lagan Valley Island Box Office on 028 9250 9254 and online at www.tickets.lisburncity.gov.uk.
