C400: Medieval exhibition

As part of Coleraine Borough Council’s Coleraine 400 programme a learning resource will be launched in October 2013.

This learning resource focuses on 17th century Coleraine, taking into account how the town was built, the importance of the River Bann, and what was in the town before the 17thcentury.

Today’s urban Coleraine dates back to the medieval period. The Dominican Friary or Abbey, remembered by Abbey Street, was founded in 1244.

In 1998, archaeologists’ uncovered more than 200 medieval burials and the Abbey ruins, before the Diamond shopping centre was built.

Members of the Borough can find out more about the Abbey at the FREE Coleraine 400 exhibition.

The exhibition in Coleraine Town Hall will run from Monday 23rd September to Saturday 2nd November.
