The token of congratulations is part of Council’s NI 100 programme of events which will honour those who celebrate their 100th birthday in Northern Ireland’s centenary year.

Presenting the framed certificate in Ballymoney’s Riverside Park, where 25 trees marking the Soroptimist Centenary were recently planted, Alderman Fielding said: “This anniversary is a very special occasion and as Mayor of the Borough I would like to thank all members past and present for their tireless efforts to improve the lives of women here at home and across the world.

“The club plays an important role in the community and I would like to offer my best wishes as it prepares for the next chapter in its history.”

Club President Pamela Smyth said: “It is a great honour to receive a centenary gift on behalf of Soroptimist International Ballymoney and District Club.

“This is a lovely memento of our celebration of the Centenary of Soroptimist International which was launched on June 21st 1921 in Oakland California.

“Today Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement with nearly 80,000 members and over 3000 clubs in 124 countries. 100 years after the founding of the first club, we continue to work at a local, national and international level to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls.”
