Margaret McDaid made it to Kemnay in Scotland just before lockdown in order to be with her daughter Olivia who is being treated for advanced metastatic melanoma for the third time.

Back in October 2019, Margaret decided to undertake a fundraiser for Melanoma Focus - walking 1,000 miles in six months! She is now just 25 miles away from hitting her target and aims to complete the task this Saturday (May 23).

Margaret is a familiar face in Ballymoney as she works for John Laverty Opticians.

In her JustGiving page, Margaret said: “My middle daughter Olivia is being treated for advanced metastatic melanoma for the third time. She has been through operations and immunotherapy treatments in a bid to stop it returning.

“Currently she is half way through her second course of immunotherapy and managing amazingly, we are very proud of her. It is through research funded by charities such as Melanoma Focus which have brought on treatments for this unpredictable disease immensely in recent years. I am doing this walk to raise awareness in the hope to educate others in the risks of sunbathing as well as recognising the signs of melanoma.”

To date, Margaret has raised £2,080.
