Afternoon tea treat at Galgorm Resort and Spa

Afternoon tea at the the newly built conservatory at the River Room at the Galgorm Resort and Spa can only be described as mouthwatering.

Think freshly baked warm scones, lightly whipped fresh cream, delicious home made jam, and a delicious selection of minaiture savouries and deserts.

The relaxed atmosphere of the conservatory located next to the fast flowing water of the River Maine is the perfect spot to unwind with friends for an afternoon chat or to celebrate a special occasion.

After choosing from an extensive range of teas - herbal and traditional - we settled back to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the parkland around the Galgorm as our server brought us the first part of Afternoon Tea - miniature savouries.

Served on a pristine black slate platter, we tucked into a mini haggis sausage roll, chicken Caesar salad, my choice of honey roast gammon and smoked cheese finger sandwiches and a tiny cup of quite simply the most delicious mushroom soup I have EVER tasted!

Time and again, our tea cups were replenished by our server who was attentive but not smothering.

Next came the wow factor - the cake stand that we all associate with Afternoon Tea.

On the bottom tier, we had a plain and a raspberry and white chocolate scone, still hot - served with homemade jam and fresh cream.

On the next tier, we had two individual Strawberry Victoria Sponges and two apple and blackberry mousse slices with honeycomb and fresh blueberrihomney roadses.

The top tier brought us little glasses filled with lemon posset accompanied by elderflower jelly, raspberries and a mini meringue alongside two coffee macaroons with a chocolate and roast hazelnut filling.

Despite not having lunch in preparation for our treat, we still could only manage one of the delicious (and huge) cream scones.

In a bid to make it to the top of the cake stand, we sacrificed the raspbery and white chocolate scone and continued our ascent of the treats mountain.

Everything was absolutley delicious, presented to perfection and, when we eventually admitted defeat, our server kindly boxed up the remainder for us to take home.

At only £19.50 per person, this Afternoon Tea certainly won’t break the bank, but will allow you to savour a few hours of absolute style.
