Thousands to flock to New Horizon 2016

New Horizon will be held on the Coleraine campus of Ulster University from August 6-12 this year.

The largest Christian event in Northern Ireland, it attracts around 5,000 people each day.

Running at the university campus in Coleraine since 1989, New Horizon is more than a conference – it is a time of refreshment, challenge, inspiration and encouragement for all the family with vibrant worship, evening celebrations, morning Bible teaching, topical seminars and high-energy Youth and Children’s programmes.

Each year a ‘tented village’ on the edge of the university campus with a ‘Main Tent’ that seats 3,500 people.

The Evening Celebrations start at 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday and the morning Bible teaching starts at 10am from Monday to Friday, both in the New Horizon ‘Pavilion’. From 11:45am-12:45pm a number of NH Explore seminars take place in various locations in the tented village and lecture theatres in the main university building.

Among the guest speakers this year leading morning Bible readings and evening celebrations are:

* Gavin Calver is the Director of Mission at the Evangelical Alliance and has a burning passion to see the Gospel reach every person in the UK. He was formerly the National Director of Youth for Christ, is an ordained evangelist and regular public speaker, and has authored four books.

* Lambeg-born Trevor Morrow is one of Ireland’s most gifted Bible teachers and communicators, someone whose ministry has been a challenge and encouragement to many across the denominations. . Trevor ministered in Lucan Presbyterian Church for some 31 years before his retirement in 2014.

* Scot McKnightis a recognized authority on the New Testament, early Christianity, and the historical Jesus.

Author or editor of fifty books, he is the Professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary in Lombard, IL.

Dr. McKnight obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham (1986). He blogs at Jesus Creed.

Also taking part in the week’s ministry is New Irish Arts, a vibrant Christian charity working in partnership with the Church in Ireland to present Christianity through the Arts.

Some of their musicians will be leading worship from Saturday through to Tuesday evening – this will be their third year at New Horizon.

The Festival has always seen working with young people as a vital and rewarding part of the week. Different programmes are geared to appropriate ages and cover from Creche through to, (and including) 18 years of age.

The children and youth programme is: Salt Factory Sports, P5-P7, 7pm-9:15pm; Creche (babies and pre-schoolers); Scripture Union (P1 – P7) 9:30am-1pm; Livewire (Year 12+) 9:30am-1pm; On The Edge :pm (Y8-12) 7pm-9:30pm; On The Edge :am (Y8-11) 9:30am-1pm.

The seminar programme has been renamed ‘NH Explore’ to reflect its purpose and style: exploring specific issues in depth, through a range of approaches including seminars, workshops, discussion groups, panels, presentations and talks.

Prayer meetings at New Horizon are open to everyone: Mornings at 09:30 and evenings at 18:45 in the Prayer Tent, next to the main Pavilion.

Everyone is welcome to go along.
