Series of Ulster Scots history taster sessions?

David Hume has written to Dervock and District History Group stating that he has won the tender from the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure to deliver the lectures on Ulster Scots across Northern Ireland.

The session looks at the history of Ulster Scots and also its language traditions.

The talk will be delivered by Mr Hume and there will be no cost to it for any group selected as a location.

Mr Hume said that DCAL are looking for a facility which will be free of charge.

“The target is quite modest - ten people per session, ” Mr Hume told Peter Thompson of the Dervock History Group.

“If you think there would be an interest in Dervock and would have a venue could you let me know?

“Or if you can suggest someone to contact if it is not your thing, let me know.

“I am meeting with DCAL this week to firm things up.”

In response Mr Thompson revealed that he had spoken to Frankie Cunningham, Chair of Dervock and District Community Association and who agreed that this would be an excellent idea.

It is understood that dates are currently being agreed with Mr Hume possibly being held in March.
