Riverfest is back on the Bann next month

Riverfest steps up a gear this year as Coleraine welcomes the top European and African wakeboard athletes to the Waterways Ireland event at Christie Park in August.

They will be gathering to compete in the European and African Wakeboard (Boat) Championships which will be a major part of this year’s event on the Lower Bann at

The Riverfest event will have something for everyone, from world class competition on the water to many attractions and competitions along then length of Christie Park. The event will run from 5-13 August.

Riverfest itself will start at 3.00pm on Monday, 8 August, when a Viking re-enactor will sound a hunting horn from Mountsandel Fort to signal the official opening of the event. Team captains will then travel by boat from Somerset Park to Christie Park followed by a short parade of all the athletes to the Coleraine Town Hall for a mayoral welcome reception at 4.00pm. Along with the competition Riverfest has many land based attractions: Ireland v Europe Strongman Competition, bouncy castles, climbing wall, trade stalls and a craft and artisan market. There is a boat show as well as classic car displays. This is a free family day out.
