With this in mind the FHB Patient Participation Group hosted a patient information afternoon entitled ‘No Health Without Mental Health’ in Ballymoney Health Centre. The patient participation group comprises patients, GPs and the Practice manager and the group aimed to raise awareness of the importance of emotional wellbeing and the need for mental health to have parity with physical health as a goal for all.

The first speaker was Kieran Quinn, NHSCT Emotional Wellbeing Co-ordinator who outlined the role of the Emotional Wellbeing Hub, counselling and the role of the voluntary sector. He was followed by Nuala O’Kane, a Recovery College Facilitator who highlighted the Recovery College goals of mentorship, self-education and empowerment. A service user of the Recovery College then spoke from the heart about the benefits she had obtained from following the Recovery College programme. Edith Trainor, the Practice counsellor, outlined the support available from counselling and the favourable comments from satisfied service users.
