Kilrea Pipe Band welcomes learners to tuition

As the Kilrea Pipe Band begins preparations for the busy 2013 competition season, it is also celebrating 90 years since making its’ first public appearance in the Co. Londonderry village in 1923.

In recent years Kilrea Pipe Band has been competing regularly in RSPBA(NI) events across the Province, including at Cookstown, Portrush, Ballymoney and Newcastle.

Last August the Band made the trip to the World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow, finishing a respectable 10th out of 48 entries in Grade 4B amongst competitors from as far away as Australia.

With a busy schedule ahead, Kilrea Pipe Band is seeking to add new members to its’ ranks, and is keen to hear from anyone interested in learning to play the bagpipes or the drums. The Band will be running a programme of lessons, made possible by the support of the Ulster-Scots Agency, in either Scottish piping or drumming for beginners of any age. There will be an opportunity to gain a recognised qualification for those who wish to do so. The lessons start on Wednesday 6th February at 7.30pm in Kilrea Orange Hall.

To register your interest or simply find out more, you can call Rodney Wilson on 028 2564 1776, email info@kilreapipeband.com, message us on Facebook, or simply turn up on the evening.
