History maker Keith moves on

Known for his great work within the borough Keith has taken up a new position in the Siege Museum in Londonderry.

Paying tribute to a ‘great asset’, Peter Thompson from Dervock Community Association explained: “Over his term in Ballymoney he continually worked behind the scenes to ensure the events and projects in Dervock were a success.

“Since he arrived in Ballymoney many years ago I have had the pleasure of working with him on many projects, not only Dervock and Ballymoney but further afield and through his experience I have learned many things.

“He always spoke very highly of Dervock and although he originally came from Belfast he took great pride in its history and its people. When I had an idea for a history project Keith would have been my first point of contact and we would have went through every option until we were satisfied that it would be a success.

“He has guided, directed me and opened many doors that has helped me in promoting our local history and for that I am extremely grateful.

“Keith has now finished his term in Ballymoney and has obtained a new position in the Siege Museum in Londonderry. They are extremely fortunate to have obtained his services, having known him and having had the opportunity to see how he operates I know he will be a great asset to them.”

In response to the kind words posted on Facebook, Keith added: “Many thanks Peter, it’s been a pleasure working with you and I’ll continue to help when I can with your exciting new projects and initiatives, you’re doing great work! Also my sincere thanks to everyone in Dervock for their support and encouragement over the years, it was always a pleasure and you all made me feel so welcome.

“One of my proudest memories is being involved with the McArthur commemoration in 2012 when we had our friends here from Potchefstroom, the new play was performed in the school and everyone gathered in the field to watch ‘Kennedy Kane’ light the beacon before the marathon the next day…what an occasion!”
