Game of Thrones on location

As filming continues on second series of highly acclaimed HBO drama series GAME OF THRONES, Northern Ireland Screen is delighted to confirm that HBO has used the Cushendun Caves as one of the locations for their shoot.

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” by George R.R. Martin, GAME OF THRONES follows kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noblemen as they vie for power. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are executive producers and writers of the show, which has recently received 13 Emmy nominations.

The cast line-up for the series includes (in alphabetical order): Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Michelle Fairley as Lady Catelyn Stark, Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish (“Littlefinger”), Jack Gleeson as Prince Joffrey Baratheon, Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Lena Headey as Queen Cersei Lannister, Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark, Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen, Richard Madden as Robb Stark, Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane (“The Hound”), Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark and Maisie Williams as Arya Stark.

On a recent visit to the set at Cushendun Caves, East Antrim MLA Oliver McMullan said; “To bring such a big production to the beautiful Glens of Antrim area is a fantastic achievement and we are overjoyed that the Cushendun Caves will feature in this hugely popular series. Incoming international productions like this not only provide an economic boost to the area but also have positive spin-off effects for promoting it as a tourist destination. Film and television production enables us to showcase our stunning countryside to a global audience. I hope there will be a lasting legacy from Game Of Thrones and that more productions will follow them to this area of outstanding natural beauty.”

Hundreds of Northern Ireland cast and crew continue to be used on the production, which is of vast size and scale and is now Sky Atlantic’s most popular show to date.

GAME OF THRONES continues to receive funding from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
