Game of Thrones: Betting begins on who will die in Season 6

Ahead of the epic Season Six premiere of Game of Thrones speculation is rife about who is bound to be killed off in what has been promised by the show's insiders to be the most seriously epic season yet.

Ever since the seemingly central character Ed Stark famously had his head chopped off in Season One, we’ve all pretty much been on the edge of our seats at all times expecting our favourite characters to be unceremoniously cast aside.

Indeed, betting has even begun on the fate of the show’s most central characters. What do you think of the odds – and more importantly, will your most beloved character live to see the premiere for Season Seven?

SANSA STARK

Sansa Stark surprisingly has pretty good odds of surviving season six along with Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish.

Odds of death: 50/1 for both

TOMMEM BARATHEON

Tommem Baratheon is in a rather precarious position of power…

Odds of death: 15/1

CERSEI LANNISTER

Everyone loves to hate her, and the series simply wouldn’t be the same without the wine swigging sassy comments and sarcastic eye-rolls.

Thankfully, although it was all looking more than a wee bit precarious towards the end of Series Five, Cersei is now under serious protection now that she’s no longer in the clutches of the High Sparrow.

Odds of death: 25/1

MARGAERY TYRELL

We love the bitter rivalry between Margaery Tyrell and literal ice-queen Cersei Lannister. But unfortunately, whilst Margaery might have dodged a marriage to the insufferable late King Joffrey, she might not survive death by the writers’ room. Chances are, the new queen will not live long past the proverbial honeymoon.

Odds of death: 3/1

ARYA STARK

Despite apparently going blind at the end of last season, with all her training at the House of Black and White last season, it seems unlikely that Arya will bow out before getting to put her talents to good use.

Odds of death: 3/1

JORAH MORMONT

While Tyrion thankfully has a pretty solid shot at living through season six (George R.R. Martin’s personal favourite character is Tyrion Lannister,), Jorah will almost certainly not be so lucky — especially now that he’s contracted greyscale.

Odds of death: 1/1

THE HIGH SPARROW

The High Sparrow has made some powerful enemies, most notably Cersei Lannister – but also the powerful (and willing to kill) Tyrell family. Could his time be nigh?

Odds of death: 10/1

RAMSAY BOLTEN

Many would go so far as to brand him the most despicable villain on “Game of Thrones” – even beating off some stiff competition from the previous character with the infamous crown, King Joffrey.

Ramsay Bolton looks particularly probable to meet his end on the show this season, with many anticipating his family’s fall from ‘grace’ in a rather epic way.

Odds of death: 4/1

BRIENNE OF TARTH

She may be tough, but she’s not immortal. Last we saw of her, she was about to slay Stannis. Could a plot twist be in the air? Or has she served her purpose in the cut-throat eyes of the show’s writers? Only time will tell…

Odds of death: 8/1

THEON GREYJOY

Despite many hardcore fans believing Theon Greyjoy — or “Reek,” depending on who you ask — has achieved his storyline arch after saving Sansa Stark and finally rebelling against his captors, his odds are surprisingly high that he could stick around.

Odds of death: 20/1

JON SNOW

Jon Snow might appear dead, but is he? Oddsmakers have laid out nine different scenarios:

Jon Snow is resurrected as himself: 1/1

Jon Snow is reborn as the great Azor Ahai: 2/1

Jon Snow is resurrected and returns as Jon Stark: 3/1

Jon Snow returns in a flashback: 5/1

Jon Snow returns in a dream: 5/1

Jon Snow never actually died and recovers: 6/1

Jon Snow uses warg powers and becomes Ghost (his direwolf): 10/1

Jon Snow comes back as a white walker: 15/1

Jon Snow won’t return and is as dead as a doornail: 25/1

DAENERYS

Now that Jon Snow has – ahem – “died”, Daenerys feels like the most significant and protected character on the show. So much has been made of her desire to return home and reclaim the Throne that, were she to perish before getting there, it would be a travesty. And not a Red Wedding style, ‘that’s a tragedy, but it’s great storytelling’ scenario, more a ‘that’s actually just slapping the audience in the face’ sort of thing.

Odds of death: 50/1
