Funding for WW1 project to go online

The ‘Associations’ application “From Little Oak Grove to The Somme’ secured funding from the HLF ‘Then and Now’ programme which launched ‘The Mocker’ Newsletter and now a unique website www.discoverdervock.com that will become an educational portal for those who are researching their ancestry and connections with the ‘Great War’ and WWII?

Frankie Cunningham, Chairperson said: “In recognition of the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ and the commitment to the ‘Great War’ that the community of Dervock and District gave - this programme will focus on several aspects of WWI and the legacy it visited on the community of Dervock and surrounding area.

‘It has allowed us to develop a community website that will provide an interactive means of sharing information, connecting groups and existing heritage relating to our project and World War I? It will create a platform for unheard stories and quantify the commitment by both communities in the ‘Great War’.

‘We are delighted to have received the funding which enables us to deliver this valuable project – an invaluable resource as it documents Dervock and District’s legacy during and after the Great War.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Mark Robinson (Heritage Lottery – Then and Now), Shauna Irons (Community Outreach Worker – BCRC), Damien Smyth (Dfined – web designer), Keith Beattie (Causeway Museum Service – Ballymoney), Peter Thompson and Frank McLernon whose knowledge, direction and contribution was indeed necessary throughout the application of the project.
