Four wheels, three weeks, two men, one purpose...!

Phil Morrison and David McConville are hoping to raise £16,000 by cycling from Ballymoney to Cluj Napoca in Romania.

The Ballymoney duo are embarking on the self funded 1,400 mile trek to raise funds for an expansion of Blythswood Romania’s Daniel Centre, a home for young men leaving orphanages that provides for them spiritually and practically to equip them for a full life in society.

Speaking to the Times, Phil from Finvoy Road explained: “The Daniel Centre has recently acquired two new apartments which are bare shells and need to be fully kitted out to be put into use by September 2016.

“These apartments will provide additional accommodation as the young men transition to independent living. The project has been costed at £18,372, with a further £15,982 required to meet the need.

“Up to now an amazing total of £8,000 has been raised. However we still need more.”

Phil and David plan to leave Northern Ireland next Monday, June 13 and hopefully arrive in Cluj three weeks later on Saturday, July 2.

Phil who is a plumber in the town added: “We are planning to travel around 1,400 miles across Europe through nine countries. The whole journey is going to be extremely tough although the hardest part is leaving my wife Natalia and five month old son Riley. Missing them will be the biggest challenge.
