Members received the new Activities Programme for September to December 2016. It included the programme for the speakers at the monthly main meetings, which are held on the first Tuesday morning in each month.

New Activity Groups are Knit and Natter (for charity) and planned, Indoor Bowls. There will be no activities on Wednesdays from now on, due to the increase in the Old Courthouse rental. The OCH is booked for the first and third Tuesdays of each month, so the meetings, which took place on Wednesdays, will now take place on Tuesdays. Gardening and Golf will continue on Thursdays, Coffee Catch Up, in Ground, and Out to Lunch on Fridays. The Bridge Group meets on Mondays at the Building Communities Resource Centre.

The September speaker was Mrs Betty McNerlin, from Ballykelly. A volunteer tour guide, she is a storyteller within a lottery funded project about local people in WW1.  With a special interest in the role of WWI women, she told local stories about three women from Limavady and Ballycastle. She also mentioned a new book published by Penny Starns called Sisters of the Somme, based on unpublished stories of nurses and medical staff from a Somme field hospital.

The University of the Third Age (U3A) is open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired, regardless of age. Membership of a U3A (£15 a year in Ballymoney) is required before you can join an activity group, which charges a small fee to cover expenses. If you are interested, contact Marie Hegarty, chairperson, [email protected] or check the new website at http://u3asites.org.uk/ballymoney. Or come to the OCH in Charlotte Street on a first or third Tuesday at 11am or 1.30pm.
