After Monday night’s 9-2 defeat by Oran Kearney’s Coleraine Jason Wilmont’s side bounced back to win 3-2 on Saturday.

“We still went to sleep for two of the goals and we need to eliminate mistakes like that.

“Against Coleraine our game plan went out the window after their firat goal. Their first five goals were horrendous and were down to mistakes by us. However, the commitment and effort was there and I asked for that from the lads.”

Despite the defeat Jason was pleased with some of the performances.

“Young Jordan Dunlop in goals was brilliant and produced some superb saves. He will be a big loss to us when he goes to America this week.

“Peter Kennoway was playing out of position at outhalf and he alriaght for us considering that.

“There’s no doubt the game gave our lads aserious workout. Coleraine’s midfield are as good as anyones and they played good football and tore us to bits. “

Wilmont and his team always said they weren’t concerned about the scoreline prior to the friendly, it was all about performance.

“It was a learning exercise for us and just what we needed at this stage. I got the effort I asked for but I also saw some silly mistakes. Hopefully we can put some of what we learned into practise tonight (Tuesday) when we play Larne away. That will be really tough but it’s exactly what we need at this stage, it’s all about competing and putting in a shift.

“I will be changing the team quite a bit for tonight and giving a lot of younger players who haven’t had as much game time a run out. I’m starting to get some of the more experience players back like Jason McLay and they make a big difference.

“I hope to rest some of the older players as they’ve played a lot of football over the last few weeks and I want to ensure everyone is in top condition for the start of the season.

“The important thing for us is to start and eliminate the silly mistakes we have been making. If we don’t do that then we will be in trouble.”
