Glebe Rangers travelled to Windsor Park to play Warren Feeney’s Linfield in the second round of the JBE League Cup on Tuesday 1st September.
Despite a valiant performance the Ballymoney men lost 5-0 having held the Blues to 1-0 until the 73rd minute.
The scoreline was an unfair reflection on the performance of Glebe Rangers who battled from the first whistle, producing a performance that did the club and town credit.
Two goals from Ivan Sproule and further strikes from Andy Waterworth, Thomas Murray and Aaron Burns gave the Premiership side the win over the Championship Two club.
Midfielder T.J. Murray fired Warren Feeney’s men into the lead after only five minutes, before Jimmy Callacher saw a 17th minute shot tipped onto the woodwork by Glebe keeper Chris Fullerton.
Waterworth bagged his ninth goal of the season with a cool finish on 76 minutes before Sproule bagged his first of the night three minutes later.
Sproule made it 4-0 with a rifled finish on 88 minutes, before Burns completed the scoring when he latched onto a Johnny Frazer pass for his sixth goal of the campaign.
Jason Wilmont and his men should be very proud of this performance and they now need to return their focus to the important business of the league campaign.
