Scorpion Karol is Irish Cruiserweight Champion

SCORPION ABC’s Karol Dlugosz travelled south to contest the Irish Cruiserweight Championship.

The stage was the National Stadium in Dublin and Karol had booked himself into the final with a quarter final win over Christopher Redmond of Borough BC Dublin.

He then moved into the semi final as he scored a crunching second round TKO over Paul Curry from Castlebar BC Mayo. This set up a very tough encounter with Harry Leavey from Maynooth BC Meath. He had gained entry to the final with two stoppage wins of his own, but any ideas of stopping the Scorpion man were soon blown away as Leavey felt Karols power from the start.

Karol kept his opponent on the back foot and dominated using his jab and his now trademark body punching. Karol led 3-1 after the first round and as he increased the pressure he was 7-3 going into the last round, and he simply turned the screw up again controlling distance and executing his shots perfectly to be crowned Champion of Ireland on a score of 11-5.

“It was a fantastic win for Karol. He first weighed in three weeks ago for these championships and it took three weekends and four weigh ins in Dublin to become champion, so all credit to him,” said a Club spokesman.

“He represented Scorpion Boxing Club and Ballymoney with great pride. This is his fourth title win this season but to capture an Irish Title in the fashion he did was simply brilliant.”

It has been a meteoric rise for the 18 year old who studies Sport at Coleraine College and with his feet firmly on the ground Karol will be gunning for more success in the coming months.

Just a reminder that a major Boxing Tournament will be taking place in the town at JDLC on 8th March to celebrate Scorpion ABC 30th Anniversary.

A County Antrim team will be taking on the Isle of Man in what is hoped to be a fantastic night of boxing with some well known celebrities coming along to give their support.
