ARMOY Rugby club celebrated their end of season dinner and presentatioan of prizes on a high note at their Limepark clubrooms.

Players and officials celebrated their second successive league title clinching the trophy with a gutsy performance at the City of Derry rugby club to snatch the title from close rivals Innishowen.

Speaking at the dinner, club captain, Barry Taggart, attributed the success to the coaching skills of Ian Caldwell who, he said, had added structure to their play as well as a sense of determination on the field.

He paid tribute to the dedication of the players and the unstinting support of the supporters who had followed the club in all conditions.

Armoy have a proud tradition and readily admit that they have struggled at times to keep the team going, but there has never been any talk of quitting and at present there’s a renewed sense of purpose.

As the First XV gets set for a return to the qualifying leagues, preparations are in place for a Second XV which will mean a healthy rotation of players. Match fitness can also be managed across a squad, not just one team.

Barry revealed that discussions are taking place for a ladies team to join the club which will add to the overall impact of rugby in the village.

Plans are also in place to develop the facilities as well as modernising the clubhouse.
