Thirds fight back for Greenisland draw

On Saturday 25th Febuary Ballymoney thirds hosted Greenisland in the league leaders title match.

Both teams came out with determination with a lot of pressure on the Ballymoney defence in the first 15 minutes.

But the toon girls held strong and were able to hold off Greenisland’s many attacks.

Ballymoney lifted their game in response and began to attack Greenisland with strong running from Johanne McAllister, Rebecca Turton and Hollie Fleming.

However Ballymoney were caught up front drawing excellent tackles from the Ballymoney defence of Ciara McGuigan, Katie Houston, Sarah Reid and Kate Ruddock along with a string of good saves from Sophie Spence.

However on the verge of halftime after a good save Greenisland were clinical in finishing the rebound.

This spurred the girls on resulting in sustained pressure on the Greenisland goal. This unluckily resulted in a disallowed goal.

The second half started as the first finished with Ballymoney being the first to every ball and causing the experienced Greenisland team a lot of problems.

However great midfield play from the Ballymoney girls stopped any attacks before they could apply too much pressure.

Ballymoney finished strong with a hard ball put into the circle by Katie Houston to Rebecca Turton who rounded the keeper and passed to Chloe McConaghie who slotted the ball into the backboard with seconds to go leaving the final score 1-1.

The team would like to thak the umpire Rob and coach Lynne and all the supporters who came to the game.
