The weekend competition at the Brown Trout was for the lovely ‘Claret Jug’ namely the Aghadowey Cup. Played in stableford format it was Christopher Dempsey (19) who blew away all the opposition with a brilliant round which resulted in scoring 23 points each nine!
Starting off with a double bogey Chris reeled off five three pointers in a row, with another double at the seventh he had another run of five in a row three pointers then with a blank at the 16th before recovering with a birdie at the 17th and another par at the last.
Chris had only moved up to a handicap of 19 last week but finds himself playing off 16 from now on! Three points adrift Seamus Doherty (15) also loses a shot after returning a good score of 43 points.
With 21 points after nine it was over the back nine Seamus turned up the tempo with the help of birdies at holes 12 and 16 to add another 22 finishing runner-up.
The tiebreak was required to separate the next two players after both scored 39 points taking the third prize on offer Ronnie Engall (15) ended up with nines of 21 and 18 to edge Trevor Cupples (23) out with nines of 22 and 17.
Ronnie Milliken scooped the twos kitty with the only two scored with a chip in at the 18th hole. Next Friday some members of the club head to Lisburn for the weekend to play Down Royal Golf Course.
