Coleraine Ladies Hockey Club First XI got their season off to a winning start with a 4-0 victory over Instonians II at Rugby Avenue’s new AstroTurf pitches.

An opening goal from centre forward Hillary Andrews put Coleraine in the lead after a few minutes of play.

Instonians came back into the game but could not get past the Coleraine defenders.

Quick passes resulted in Coleraine forwards winning a penalty corner, with Susan Chapman scoring after the opposing keeper saved the straight strike.

Coleraine continued to mount pressure on the Instonians defenders and gained another short corner with Sue Nutt finding the back of the net, leaving Instonians trailing 3-0 at half time.

The second half saw Coleraine players continue to move the ball around the pitch with the Instonians defenders being put to the test with their keeper forced into making several good saves to keep the score down.

Nevertheless the home side scored again, this time Zoe Campbell found the back of the net, bringing Coleraine to a 4-0 victory over the visitors.

Next week Coleraine play Ballycastle away and hope to continue their winning start to the league.
