Causeway Netball Club enjoy most successful season

2011-2012 was recorded as the most successful season for Causeway Netball Club.

The 1st team finished 6th overall in the NNI Netball league, which was their highest place to date.

In 2011 Causeway firsts gained promotion to the A1 league, where most clubs would struggle to perform at a higher level.

Causeway firsts made a huge impact in the first half of the season recording three great wins. In January 2012 league A1 was split into A and B sections, Causeway were in the B section.

In the B section during 2012 Causeway recorded only one defeat and finished second overall.

In 2012 Causeway made the semi-finals of the NNI Shield competition being defeated by Larkfield Netball club.

Causeway seconds team finished 5th in B1 league (which is the highest league in this section) and will remain in this league in 2012-13.

This was a reasonably good placing for this young team and they can only build on their experience and skill for next year.

This season due to the growth of the club, Causeway was delighted to enter a thirds team in the C1 League.

The thirds team won three matches, drew one and finished two games within five points of the opposition.

The junior section of the club was split in two sections - U14 & U16. The U14s’ season began very well with them winning 5 games out of 6.

Most of them are now playing on the north coast regional development academy and will be looking for selection to play in the NNI youth Games in May.

The U16s had a frustrating year as out of 6 games, 3 were cancelled.

This is a section of the club that officials are keen to develop. They aim to take in new members for next season.

In April 2012 Causeway received the Sports Council NI Clubmark Award.

They are the first club in the area to achieve this prestigious accreditation by putting in place effective management, quality coaching and competition safety in sport.

Causeway Netball Club was re-formed from previous club Coleraine Ladies in 2005. Their success in recent years has been down to local girl and Wing Defender (WD) on the 1st team, Brenda Boyle.

Brenda plays a leading role in management, coaching and increasing participation levels within the club.

She receives huge support from Joanne Lennox, Noelle Rea, Oonagh Mullan and Leanne Penn, who are very passionate and committed members.

Brenda stated: “I am delighted with the form and commitment the girls have shown this season. As the chairperson of the club I am very proud to be associated with Causeway Netball Club and can only look forward to an exciting 2012-13.”

Brenda was also selected to represent NNI as an umpire at the Netball Europe U17 championships in Glasgow in March.

She now goes onto umpire at the Netball Europe Senior Development tournament in Gibraltar next month.

A great highlight for Causeway Netball Club was the return of former international sprinter Anna Boyle.

Anna was part of the NNI open squad and was chosen to represent NNI Panthers in January this year at the British Invitational held in Glasgow.

The club hopes that players from Causeway are inspired by her achievements and that the club is represented at international level in all age groups in the future.

Causeway Netball Club would like to thank their sponsor for this year – Richard Henderson, Solo garage @ Milltown Service Station.
