Causeway 1st’s suffered a defeat against Larkfield last Friday night at the Lisburn Racquets Club, final score 81 – 62.
In their second match of the 2013-14 Netball season, Causeway started well with excellent shooting from Oonagh McFerran, GA and Joanne Lennox, GS who executed every goal chance. Larkfield’s former International shooting star Kyla Bowman ensured that Larkfield took an early lead, with the score after the first quarter 18 – 8.
Causeway’s defence Mary McCollum, GD and Noelle Rea, GK made scoring difficult putting pressure on Bowman. Larkfield’s strength came from Northern Ireland’s top International Netballer Caroline O’Hanlon however; O’Hanlon was well matched against Causeway’s Anna Boyle in Centre.
Speed and agility from Tara McLaughlin, WA and Brenda Boyle, WD created flutters of excellent play by Causeway with the half time score, Larkfield 42 – 19.
In the third quarter Causeway youngster, Stephanie Gillen made her debut in Centre. Gillen demonstrated that she could hold her own and fed some fantastic balls into Causeway’s shooters. At the end of the third quarter Larkfield increased their lead to 62 – 25.
In the final quarter Causeway’s Catherine Mclean took up WD position with Brenda Boyle, moving to WA. Unfortunately for Causeway this wasn’t enough for the North Coast ladies, Larkfield pulled away from a somewhat “fatigued Causeway” making the final score 81 - 29.
