Ballymoney travelled to play Belfast Harlequins in what turned out to be a very tight away game on Saturday the 3rd of January with the final score as a 0-0 draw.

Ballymoney were ready to start this New Year with hard work and determination. Right from the whistle the team fought and battled hard. Although neither teams’ defence were letting anything through. Ballymoney played well as a unit with the forward and midfield players working back to help defend the circle.

Ballymoney got a break through towards the end of the first half with a great shot on goal which was saved by Quins’ goalkeeper. Ballymoney couldn’t let their heads drop here as Quins immediately fought back playing the ball from the their defence to upfront. Quins managed to make a break with a shot on goal, Ballmoney’s goal keeper Jodie Shannon made an excellent save and the score remained 0-0.

After a motivating half time talk Ballymoney were ready to go again. Quins were awarded a penalty corner shortly into the second half.

With an excellent clearance by Diane McNeill Ballymoney were certain they did not want to concede any goals. Ballymoney did not let this hinder them and fought back with good passing.

Emma Kernohan made a breakthrough getting the ball into the circle with a great strike which was unfortunate not to go in. Quins were awarded another short corner but Ballymoney’s defence were on form today with an excellent save from Jodie and clearance from Bridget Cleland.

Ballymoney were determined and did not give up yet. The ball was played to Nikki Parke who made an outstanding ball across the pitch to Diane Mcneill. Diane controlled the ball and made an excellent strike on target which unfortunately the Quins’ keeper saved. Quins made a breakthrough and were awarded a short corner. Ballymoney’s defence worked hard and tactically won a free out. Both teams fought hard for the remainder of the game with both sides awarded with chances. Despite Ballymoney’s best efforts the score remained 0-0.
