ON Saturday Ballymoney 2nd XI hosted Dungannon 2nd XI for their first league match of the season at the Joey Dunlop Centre.
Ballymoney, captained by Claire Black started with confidence, applying pressure on the Dungannon defence.
The midfield of Lauren Mullan, Nicola Sargent and Sara Gardner worked well in getting the ball to the forwards, Laura Mccurdy, Rebecca Webb, Cathryn Knipe and Olivia Kearney.
The result of this pressure was a goal scored by Rebecca Webb. After this Money continued to hassle the Dungannon defence, the result of which was a penalty corner in Moneys favour which was successfully converted by Laura McCurdy leaving the score 2-0. Moneys defence of Aine Kearney, Jill Black, Alex Halliday and Claire Black were strong in their tackles breaking down Dungannons attacking play. Money’s midfield and forwards continued to work together the result of which was another goal scored by Lauren Mullan, leaving the score 3-0 at half time.
Ballymoney started the second half strong and full of confidence, Dungannon, however, came out equally as strong and were able to break down Moneys attacking play.
Dungannon then caught the Money girls on the back foot and a lapse in concentration from the money defence and goal keeper Kate Mckane lead to a penalty stroke being awarded in Dungannons favour, which was converted, leaving the score 3-1.
From the restart Money yet again piled the pressure onto the Dungannon defence and was awarded a penalty corner for their efforts. It was Laura Mccurdy on the right post that was able to convert the corner leaving the score 4-1. With 15 minutes of the match left Money dug deep and continued to battle. Sara Gardner had a fantastic strike on goal and was unlucky not to find the backboard.
Money continued to press, frustrating Dungannon, Nicola Sargent was in great form creating some great runs and passing some fantastic balls through to Olivia Kearney on the left post. With 5 minutes to go it was Lauren Mullan who slotted the ball into the back of the net, leaving the score 5-1.
As the final wistle blew the score was 5-1, a well deserved draw for the Money girls. The team wish to thank all support, Rob Harris and Diane McNeill for umpiring and Diane Kirgan for coaching.
