Last Saturday saw the first round of the IHL where Ballymoney played Pegasus on a sunny day at the Joey Dunlop Leisure centre.
Pegasus started well with a short corner in the 4th minute but Ballymoney’s keeper Jodie Shannon made a great clearance but unfortunately resulted in another penalty corner but Ballymoney’s captain Nicki Parke cleared the ball away. The pressure was still on Ballymoney but they held Pegasus scoreless. 15 minutes into the first half another penalty corner was awarded to Pegasus and Kate McConnell tapped it in on the near post to make the score 1-0. Ballymoney made a brilliant play up the left side of the pitch and were rewarded with a short corner. Pegasus then counter attacked and broke away with a goal from Rhianna Campbell to make it 2-0. The second half followed and 1 minute in Bridget Cleland struck a reverse hit shot at the Pegasus goal but Pegasus’ goalie made a save and the ball was cleared. Five minutes in to the second half Pegasus won another short corner but the Ballymoney’s defence cleared the ball with ease. Half way into the second half Alex Speers shot from the top of the circle at the Ballymoney net but again Money’s keeper made a fantastic save to deny the goal. Ballymoney tried valiantly but could not score against the Pegasus team and the match finished 2-0. In the next match Ballymoney will be travelling to University College Cork on the 1st November.
