On Saturday evening last, Ballymoney Bowling Club Immediate Past President Aiden Reid welcomed members and guests to the official opening of the green for the 2014 season.
All stood as a mark of respect to the late Ronnie McConaghie who sadly passed away in October last, he had served the Club faithfully as a member for some fifty years, as Club Honorary Treasurer for 25 years, as a Club Selector, as President of the N.I.P.B.A and in latter years as an Honorary Member. His interest in the Club never wained and was always happy to see the Club teams doing well, he will be sadly missed.
Aiden introduced President Jim Martin pinning on the Presidential Badge wished him and all the members a very enjoyable and successful season.
President Jim thanked Aiden for his good wishes and thanked him for all the success the Club had enjoyed during his year as President, he pinned on the Past President’s Badge, and invited his wife, Geraldine, to roll the silver jack and deliver the first bowl.
Mrs Geraldine Martin after rolling the jack and delivering the first bowl and declaring the 2014 season open wished all the members a very happy enjoyable successful season both on and off the green.
Ladies President Mrs Rachel McBride also rolled a silver jack and delivered a bowl to declare the Ladies season open and wished them contained success in their bowling programme.
President Jim invited all present to the Social Room where supper was served by the ladies and enjoyed by all.
Members are reminded that beginning of season friend lies are being organised so watch the notice boards for Teams being posted.
Also copies of all the Leagues and Cup programmes are on the Notice Boards and also the NIPBA Championship Entry Form.
Note - names must be on it by Tuesday 15th April and no A.N. Others are allowed.
The green will be open for play from Monday 14th April and members are reminded to move the delivery mat about and not always
put it in the same place, this helps to ease the wear on the rink ends at this time of year.
