McVicker on fire as Glebe Reserves progress in cup

Glebe Rangers Reserves travelled to Portsrtewart reserves in the Cup and came away with a 5-2 win.

Glebe started the game brightly and with a couple of minutes played Danny White let fly with a left footed strike from 35 yards out which struck the crossbar and rebounded out for Adrian McCook to head home.

Within a minute of the restart McCook showed great awareness as he and Mawhinney linked up well to set Adam Mcvicker free to score Glebe’s second of the game. Adam McVicker was involved in another goal as he set Adrian McCook free down the right hand side and from the edge of the box the midfielder finished brilliantly to make it 3-0.

Within a minute of the restart McVicker was at it again picking the ball up wide on the right hand side skipping past three men and giving the Seahawks keeper no chance with a curling effort from 25 yards out.

In the second half Portstewart’s efforts were rewarded as they finally broke through Glebe defence to leave it 4-1. With five minutes of the restart Neill McVicker played Josh Elliot through on goal and Elliot duly played in Adam McVicker to complete his first hat trick of the season. Portstewart scored late on to leave the final score 5-2.

Manager Ryan Gurney commented: “Our performance in the first 15 minutes was as good as I’ve seen in a long time.

“The whole team were outstanding and it’s hard to single only one out but Adam McVicker showed what he’s all about - quality!”
