Ballymoney cyclists are top of the Podium again

Ballymoney CC Biesty's Centra riders Aaron Swan, Rowan Montgomery, Peter Steele and Stuart Laverty are again in the top placings in Ulster cycling.

The local lads were not only topping the podium at club level but Aaron Swan the youngest rider in this years UCI An Post Ras was runner up at the Audi GP in Ballynure, but then followed this up on the Sunday at Banbridge in the Noel Teggart Memorial, the Banbridge race is a National Classic event and was won by professional Tour of California racer Ryan Sherlock.

Earlier that day Swan had crossed on his own a 90 second to the front riders and continued his effort with Sherlock outsprinting the Ballymoney CC lad with 200m to go. Aaron who is being watched by national and provincial selectors and will be a contender for a place on Ulster and Irish teams in the not too distant future.

In the youth races at Banbridge, Ballymoney Town Centre winner and then again at the Dervock races mid week Rowan Montgomery just missed out on a top 3 place in the U14’s, and team mate Clark Logan was 7th in the U12’s. The very popular Ballymena schoolboy Peter Steele was the winner of the Dervock youth race on Wednesday evening and this is setting the Ballymoney CC Youth team in good shape for the upcoming International Errigal Youth Tour, with BCC Biesty’s racers including the new Girls team rider Rachel McLaughlin and Meabh Flannagan.

Both girls rode with boys in the Development race and were more than capable in mixing it up. Bearing in mind that the Ballymoney CC Youth team is probably the strongest in Ulster.

Stuart Laverty wins the Dervock Interclub Race

Over 50 riders took to the roads around the famous North Antrim village of Dervock on Wednesday evening, teams from Causeway, Bann Wheelers, North West Dungiven, Dunloy, Spires Magherafelt, Ballymena and Roe Valley. This series of races is the same as the Town Centr professional races on Sky and Eurosport, the model taken and adapted by BCC race secretary Aaron Dickie and applied to this local series of races for A3 and A4 riders.

From the start it was clear that Stuart Laverty the talented Ballymoney lad was setting out his stall to apply pressure on the rst of the field from the gun. Laverty won the 3 sprints on laps 2, 4 and 6 in the 30 mile event. After securing the points for the club he went on to romp home an easy winner from North West duo Nigel Bradley and Stephen Mullan.

This Wednesday evening there will be the club Australian pursuit around the Benvarden Ballybogey circuit, sign on is at Ballybogey 6:30pm and the race starts at 7.15pm.
