A local bodybuilder has been invited to take part in British national championships later this year after impressing in his debut appearance at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.
Kyle Horner made such an impact on judges in the under 23 Junior Class that he was immediately nominated to attend the United Kingdom Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation championships in Harrogate on October 19 and 20.
It is a dream come true for the 21-year-old who will begin serious training next week in preparation for what could be a huge breakthrough in his favourite sport.
All the hard work paid off at the Waterfront and cheered on by his family and friends as well as many in the 400 crowd, Kyle came second overall, beating several more experienced contestants.
“I was very nervous but I was more than pleased with the judges’ decision.
Coached by Steven Graham, himself no stranger to winning competitions, Kyle is determined to do well in England where he will be watched by more than 2000 enthusiasts.
“I’ve got eight weeks to go and I’ll be putting in a lot of effort and commitment. I can do no more, but it will be a great experience for me and my family,” he told the Times.
Kyle is grateful for the support he has received including that of Lee McCrory from Alpha Nutrition, Ballymoney, his training partner, Matthew McMullan, Glebeside Community Association for arranging transport to the Waterfront and to his family and close friends who plan to travel with him to England.
