Scorpion Boxing Club’s James Boyle produced an excellent performance on Friday night to win the Boy 4 54kgs Antrim 3s Championship in Ashfield School, Belfast. James, from Ballymoney, became champion after he stopped his opponent in the third round.
Also fighting in the final was Travis Heaney, who recently won the Ulster Novice title. Travis also produced some excellent boxing on the night, unfortunately after a superb win in the semi final, Travis struggled with the distance in the final and had to settle with silver.
Scorpion’salso had Aine McAllister, Colin Dickey and James Lyons at the finals.
Their coach Alan Spike Martin commented: “This was a great opportunity for novices to get experience at the championships and that’s why we entered the five fighters. James and Travis have been doing really well and James fought exceptionally well. Travis boxed really well in his semi final but ran out of steam in the final, however, he has a lot of talent and a good future.
“Aine has been doing really well but unfortunately she didn’t get to fight as her opponent was a no show which was really disappointing. These young fighters need to get fights to help them develop. The same thing happened for Colin and James and I know all three of them were gutted not to get fighting.
“Win, lose or draw, taking part in championships like this is a great experience for them and that’s what is all about as it helps them progress and develop as young fighters.
