High five for Glebe Reserves

Ballymena and Provincial Football League sponsored by Michelin Athletic Club

With the weather being good mid-week the rain on Friday and Saturday saw only one game being called off due to a wet pitch.

In the Intermediate Division Newtowne and Brantwood with wins on Saturday now occupy the top two places in the league table.

In Junior Division One Killymoon Rangers Res are still setting the pace as is 1st Mossley in Division Three. In Junior Division Two it is a much closer situation with a clutch of teams close together.

BRANTWOOD 8 3 CLOUGH RANGERS ATHLETIC

Brantwood took the lead after Jordan Kernoghan scored on the 8th minute and then doubled this when Steven Bainbridge scored on the 18th minute.

Brantwood went three in front after Jordan Kernoghan scored on the 29th minute but Clough reduced the deficit when David Nicholl converted a penalty on the 33rd minute.

Clough cut the deficit to a single goal when Paul Gilchrist scored on the 46th minute. Brantwood then scored two quick goals from Seamus McCleneghan and Steven Bainbridge on the 49th and 50th minute but Clough hit back again with Ricky Hanna scoring on the 67th minute.

Time was then running down when goals from Wayne Porter on the 73rd and 87th minutes and Jon McCleneghan on the 75th minute completed the scoring on the day.

Referee Mr. Joe Watson

NEWTOWNE FC 2 0 BALLYNURE OLD BOYS

It’s goals that win games and this was certainly the case in this game as Ballynure created a number of chances but it was Newtowne who were much sharper in this department scoring twice without reply.

Both teams started off playing the ball around and though chances had been created the scoreline was blank at half-time.

The second half was following a similar pattern until Blain Morrison scored the opening goal on the 65th minute. Ballynure then had to chase the game and this led to Newtowne scoring a second through Gary Moore on the 75th minute to secure the win. Referee Mr. Paul Doherty

NEWTOWNABBEY FC 3 0 DESERTMARTIN

Newtownabbey started off well taking the lead after Jackie Moore scored on the 20th minute then after this there was little to choose between the teams until Desertmartin had a man sent off for a second yellow card. Newtownabbey with the extra man then took the game to Desertmartin doubling their lead when Paul Harper scored on the 66th minute.

Time was then beginning to run down when Desertmartin had a second player sent off for a straight red card on the 76th minute. Newtownabbey then sealed the win when Jackie Moore scored his second goal on the 80th minute. Referee Mr. Hugh McElwee

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

MOYOLA PARK OLYMPIC 1 5 GLEBE RANGERS RESERVES

Glebe took the lead in this game through a well taken goal scored by Gareth Henry but Moyola cancelled this lead after Damian Maguire scored on the 17th minute.

After this it was Glebe who had the best of the scoring chances and goals from Gareth Henry (2) to complete his hat-trick Andrei Graur and Ian Parkhill ensured Glebe all three points. Referee Mr. Mark O’Neil

Chances came and went after this and at half-time the teams were still level.

Antrim then had the chance to go in front again on the 55th minute but James Stewart struck the upright with a penalty. Antrim then went in front on the 70th minute through an own goal and then finished the game off after Ricky Shaw converted a penalty on the 89th minute. Referee Mr. David Trainor

CRAWFORD CUP ROUND 2

RACEVIEW 4 1 DUNLOY

This was a much tighter game than the scoreline would suggest but it was in the taking of chances that Raceview excelled where as Dunloy were found wanting at times.

Raceview were on the attack early and took the lead after William Cameron scored on the 13th minute then added a second after Mark Ritchie scored on the 17th minute.

Things then got better for Raceview when Colin Craig scored on the 26th minute but Dunloy reduced the deficit when John John McFerran converted a penalty on the 31st minute.

The second half was certainly a very tight affair but no goals until Rodney Paul scored number four for Raceview on the 90th minute. Referee Mr. Neil Gillespie
